Creating a new kind of community isn’t something anyone can do alone. By reaching out to other people and organizations who are working on social justice and racial equity issues we begin our journey with many of the things that we need for success – knowledge, experience, creativity, and determination.
Alaska Native Brotherhood and Alaska Native Sisterhood

The Alaska Native Brotherhood and the Alaska Native Sisterhood Grand Camp is the oldest known indigenous persons’ civil rights organization in the world. Sheet’ka’ has two local camps that all are welcome to join. Opportunities to learn more and provide support are frequently promoted in the Sitka Sentinel and on the local camp group facebook pages. Outer Coast College

Outer Coast seeks to teach and inspire promising young people to create virtuous change in the world and in their own lives. It aims to accomplish this mission by providing a rigorous and challenging academic curriculum marked by exceptional pedagogy and faculty engagement. Outer Coast has been hosting Kashook’ Áa Ḵaa Ee Dultóowu Yé  (Tlingit Language classes) and hopes to continue this important task.  Learn more at http://outercoast.org/

Sitka Counseling and Prevention Services

Sitka Counseling prevents and reduces the harmful effects of mental illness and substance abuse in the lives of youth, adults, and families. We provide caring, professional, therapeutic, and preventative services. In partnership with Sitka Counseling and Prevention Services the coalition has established A Social Justice and Racial Equity Lending Library including many books on decolonization (an updated list of titles can be viewed here). The H.O.P.E. Coalition

The H.O.P.E. Coalition was established to create and strengthen collaboration among individuals, organizations, and Tribal and Non-Tribal Governmental agencies operating at the local, regional, state, and national levels.  The membership of this group includes health services, schools, local businesses, and faith organizations whose goal is to prevent and reduce substance misuse among youth, young adults, and over time, older adults.  In partnership with Sitka Counseling and Prevention Services the coalition has established A Social Justice and Racial Equity Lending Library including many books on decolonization.
